SARAMAGO´S PASSAROLA

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Watercolor on 200gr paper. 200W x 160H mm

The Passarola was the world's first known aircraft to fly, 74 years before the Montgolfier Brothers' balloon flight. There are no exact references to how it was designed, but José Saramago, in his novel "Memorial do convento", describes how this device invented by Bartolomeu de Gusmao in 1709 could have been.

This is a personal reinterpretation based solely on the magnificent Saramago's texts.
